In 2017, I was hit with severe health anxiety.

I was overwhelmed. It consumed my entire existence, making it impossible to enjoy life, much less achieve my goals.

I lost thousands of dollars on unnecessary doctor visits, ER trips, dietary changes and supplements, unhelpful remedies, and time off work - ultimately ending an otherwise successful 17-year career.

I sat on the sidelines, watching time, experiences and opportunities pass me by, meanwhile damaging relationships with family, friends and loved ones.

Finally, I asked my doctor for help. I took the medications she prescribed, went to counselling, and got nowhere near the results I expected, and desperately needed, to get my life back.

I felt helpless, lost and in despair.

I didn’t stop there. My mindset transformed, and my toolbox bursting with skills I never imagined I’d have, I began to attack my biggest goals in life. I began to LIVE, and pursue my dreams in the process.

What I mean when I say holistic…

Here’s a simple. relevant definition:


Holistic

/hɒˈlɪstɪk/

Characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease.

Don’t get me wrong, your doctor plays an important role in your recovery.

… so do your loved ones.

… so does your counsellor or therapist, if you have one.

… so does your nutritionist, if you have one.

… so does your personal trainer, if you have one.

… so does every single member of your support system.

But here’s the thing:

Most people don’t have the time, money or energy to find and all the experts.

Even if they did, it’d be nearly impossible to get all your experts on the same page, working together to help you overcome health anxiety, holistically.

I credit my 90-day complete health anxiety recovery to the decision to invest in myself, and take a holistic approach to my health anxiety recovery. Period.

Reasons for not enrolling.
Excuses for not investing in yourself.

 

Don’t get me wrong, there are legitimate reasons for not enrolling - but these are not them.

These are excuses many people tell themselves so they won’t have to do the hard things. Instead, they continue to choose a life ruled by anxiety. 😔

Hard thing #1:
Accept that they are worthy of investing in themselves, and creating a better life.

Hard thing #2:
Make positive changes in their life.

I know that if you’ve read this far, you’re different. You’ve got what it takes to overcome health anxiety naturally… but just in case you’re tempted to use any of the excuses listed below, I created a self-help guide to help you show anxiety who’s boss. 👊🏼

Self-help guide to choosing a healthy life, free of anxiety.

Excuse #1: “I don’t have time.” 😔

You have 168 hours per week (24 hours/day x 7 days/week ) - just like the students who chose to enrol.

The only difference is that you decided that other things are more important than improving your life.

I get it. There’s always a hundred things pulling at our attention - some more worthwhile (like self-care, partners, kids, friends, loved ones, work, school, chores) than others (like Netflix, Facebook and Snapchat)… and time is the one thing in this world we cannot make more of.

But like all challenges worth overcoming in life, the solution lies in a possibilities list.

Here are some ideas to get your possibilities list started:

  • Attend your video coaching sessions during your lunch break. If your lunch break is at another time, move it. If you really can’t move it, attend the video replays and send me your questions by email.

  • Take time off work or school to focus on overcoming health anxiety. (I did!) Talk to your doctor about whether (s)he’ll support your decision. (Mine did!)

  • Ask your partner for some free time to dedicate to self-care - or better yet, just take it. It’s your time, not theirs.

  • Get up earlier, or stay up later, to do the work.

  • Ask a friend or loved one to watch the kids for a few hours a week, for the next six weeks.

I can go on and on. A solution exists, you just have to decide you are worthy and choose it.

Excuse #2: “I can’t afford it.” 😔

Like time, you’ve decided that spending it on other things is more important than investing in you, your health, and happiness.

Unlike time, money is something you can make more of… and wouldn’t it be easier to make if you were living your healthiest, happiest, most productive life, with more energy, creativity and focus than ever? Of course you would.

Truth is, health anxiety is already costing you wayyyyyy more than you imagine… and it’ll continue to cost you money, time, energy, experiences, opportunities, relationships, not to mention your health, and more - until you decide enough is enough.

Again, create a possibilities list, pick one, and if it doesn’t work, pick another.

Fortunately, you’ve got two ways to make enrolling more affordable: Earn more money, and spend less money. Here are some ideas to get your possibilities list started:

Earn more money

  • Pick up an extra few shifts or overtime hours at work.

  • Pick something you’re good at, but others aren’t, (it could be anything!) and offer your services on a freelance website (such as Fiverr.com).

  • Call a family member or loved one with a business and see what extra help they need.

  • Post on social media - something like “Hi friends, I’m looking to earn $399 in the next 6 weeks so I can become the healthier than I’ve ever been. What can I do for you?”

  • Ask a family member or loved one to sponsor you or loan you the money.

  • Start a GoFundMe.

Spend less money

  • Carpool to work or school for a while.

  • Unsubscribe from TV channels you don’t watch.

  • Eat out less often (and maybe get a head-start on cleaning up your diet in the process!).

  • Wait until next year to buy that new outfit or gadget.

You get the idea. Create your possibilities list, pick one, and if it doesn’t work, pick another, and repeat until you’ve got the money you need to invest in YOU.

Excuse #3: “Maybe I don’t have health anxiety after all; maybe I have [insert name of some other anxiety disorder]” 😔

Sometimes, even when the solution’s staring us in the face, we still come up with excuses for not doing the hard things. I did!

Truth is, it doesn’t matter what you call your anxiety disorder because:

  1. There’s only one cause, and it’s the same for everyone, and every type of anxiety disorder: An unhealthy relationship between the subconscious (irrational) and conscious (rational) mind.

  2. There’s only one biochemical response that causes anxiety (and its symptoms) to manifest.

  3. Anxiety will always manifest in multiple ways, in multiple aspects of life. In short, it generalizes.

Call it health anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, OCD, or whatever you like… the cause is the same, the thinking traps you fall into are the same, the cycle of negative thoughts, feelings, sensations and behaviours is the same, and what you must do to overcome it is the same.

I built this program for people challenged by health anxiety - but no matter what label you put on your anxiety disorder, it’ll help you.

Excuse #4: “I need to wait until I get my test results.” 😔

This one really sends me into orbit. 🚀 (Disclaimer: I used to make this excuse myself.)

All it does is keep you stuck in the negative cycle of health anxiety… yet I see people make this excuse again and again.

Here’s the truth: Your tests results, no matter what they are, have zero influence over what you must do now to overcome and heal from health anxiety.

To think otherwise is to unwittingly delay healing, and cost you more.

Think of it this way:

Imagine you had a toothache, and it hurt so bad that it caused you to develop a headache. Ignoring the toothache, you went to your doctor for help with your headache. Doctor visit after doctor visit, the headache persisted, until the doctor finally ordered an MRI of your head to rule out anything serious. You wait weeks, or months, to get your MRI, then wait days or weeks to get your results. All this time, your toothache is getting worse… but no matter what the result of your MRI, you still need to go see a dentist and get a filling, root canal, or whatever, to heal your toothache. This fact simply will not change, and healing health anxiety is no different. It’s not about the symptoms… and the more you believe it is, the deeper the hole you’ll dig, and the harder and more costly it’ll be for you to learn to climb your way out.

Excuse #5: “I’m not certain it’ll help me.” 😔

I’ll let you in on a secret: Neither am I, because there’s no such thing as 100% certainty of anything. To believe otherwise is an illusion.

Yes, the approach I teach helped me during my 90-day complete health anxiety recovery.

Yes, the approach helped other 1-1 (private) coaching students whose lives are back, better than ever.

Yes, I use the exact same approach in the Group Coaching program.

So while I’m extremely confident this program will help you - one can never be 100% certain.
